Chinese Arch

Chinese arch on Store Street, Victoria, erected for the visit of the Governor General, the Marquess of Lorne, August 1882. Victoria’s Chinatown grew as British Columbia’s main Chinese trade centre, and became the hub for early Chinese pioneers throughout the province. These pioneers contributed to building today’s British Columbia. Photograph taken September 20, 1882.
