Western Red Cedar

BC has two native species of cedar, Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata), typical at lower elevations, and Yellow Cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis), found at mid to higher elevations.The easiest way to recognize Western Red Cedar is by the shape of its elongated female cones, and by the long, narrow and somewhat woody cone scales.
