The Beanlands-Pemberton Wedding

In 1905, Victoria artist Sophie Pemberton married the Reverend Canon Arthur John Beanlands, becoming a stepmother to four children. Although Pemberton had received critical acclaim for her art before the wedding, it was not thought proper for a wife to be an artist, so her career ended. How have gender roles changed since then?
